Children’s Religious Exploration

Children really are our future. They will care for us when we are old, care for the earth after we are gone, and teach what they’ve learned to future generations. Our CRE program works to teach them about Unitarian Universalism, religions and spirituality around the world, the cycles of nature and how to care for the earth, social action, and their own important role in the interdependent web of existence. This year, we are focusing on various virtues that are important to UU and humanity. We will draw from many different spiritual and historical texts for each virtue, and each class is full of games, skits, music, crafts, and more!

In addition, we are focusing on democracy, leadership, and voting throughout the year. The kids have voted to name their group, are now the Caring Kids Club! Each month elections will be held for office, and our first offices are as follows: President—Marian, Vice President—Sebastian, and Treasurer—Leo. The kids have big plans and are currently collecting money for a worthy cause, on which they all voted, of course. Please keep an eye out for their collection container for the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, located in northern Colorado. The kids want to help them rescue and rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife, to eventually be released back into the wild.

Parents and helpers are always welcome in the CRE room. If that’s not your thing, then we can always use supplies, such as:

  • Plain white copy paper
  • Construction paper
  • Glue sticks
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Colored pencils
  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Brown paper lunch bags
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Picture books for our library
  • Toys for the occasional little ones
